In his fragile state of mind this is exactly the WRONG mentor for Lion-O.
Old Captain Fish-face is driven by vengeance and he doesn’t care if his crew lives or dies. The Captain of the Fishmen’s sand-ship has a mad hate on for the Ramlak, of course you would too if a giant plant monster took your leg. Now, this is where ‘Ramlak Rising’ turns into Moby Dick. I’d like to think the Lord of the ThunderCats wouldn’t be so easily duped into a trap, but food in a net is still food in a net just ask Chewbacca. The quest, brings our rag-tag team of Cats to the sand sea of Third-Earth, where the ThunderCats are captured by the Fishmen. The kids will not be deterred, they aren’t following Team Lion-O… they are just walking behind them. Of course, Lion-O is a cat with a purpose and he is not looking to take in strays. This scene was very funny as they meowed around him like kittens in a pet shop begging to be adopted. Just their luck they run into Lion-O, and beg to be brought along. Now, armed with new clothes and outside the city walls the kittens are ready to start their search for ‘Eldara the City of Treasure’. We catch up with the adorable duo as they are looting from the Lizards… who are coincidentally, looting. In order to break the mood of all this sadness, enter Wilykit and Wilykat. After Claudus’ funeral pyre finally burns out Team Lion-O (Lion-O, Tygra and Cheetara) make their way out of the ruined Thundara. Lion-O, then demands they ignore Jaga’s final request to search for the mythical Book of Omens in favor of tracking the Lizards and Mumm-ra. In ‘Ramlak Rising’, the episode gets off to a very somber start as Lion-O and Tygra, give King Claudus his final send off with a funeral pyre. The surviving ThunderCats’ quest to find the Book of Omens is derailed by Lion-O, who is more interested in avenging his father. Okay, I could ramble on and on, but I guess that has to do for now. There's nothing more ridicolous than men in briefs. Lion-O, dear, underwear in public is NO fashion statement, it's a crime. Not like some other person in the cartoon that still scares me like hell due to the lack of REAL pants. Well, at least cloaks and bandages are fashionable. Did I mention the term "evil" so far already? So he had to be in this pic as well, despite the fact he actually does not really fit in the display of the heroes, but who cares? No heroes without evil villains, and don't we all just love those evil laughing evil maniacs with the failproof (evil) plans for the universal sake of being evil that never work? I think I'm gonna marry Mumm-Ra. Looking at it now, I think Mumm-Ra's the coolest of the bunch. But I was scared of Mumm-Ra in the past, eep. I sure favored Tygra (handsome and smart) and Wilykat (handsome and not smart) a lot. So this took shape, and I personally like it, even if it has its obligatory little flaws and errors and differences to the original characters.
After two attempts at drawing some simple comic-style group pic (of which at least two certain people think the first one was actually the best of them all, wheep) I thought this would be a good opportunity to go and try to venture into digital painting some more. Apparently it aired in Germany at least 5-6 years later (guess it was in 1991 or near it), otherwise I could hardly remember (I suppose), but I saw the first season waaaaay back then when it was something new on TV over here and some of the re-runs every now and then throughout the 90's.Įither way, it's a classic piece of childhood memory, and boy did I dig them Thunderkitties when I was little.
Actually, being from 85 as far as I recall, I'm only one year older than the Thundercats. Well, it's been quite a while since I uploaded anything, and it's quite a while since this show hit the screens for the first time.
This might be rare, but I actually have to say a load about this.
